But the new season has not been kind to the reds, languishing at the foot of the table, 6 points adrift and looking bereft of ideas.
A lot of fans are calling for the head of Calderwood to try and arrest the slide before its too late. I'm not in that camp (yet) but the next 3 games are vitally important in deciding whether he still has a job at christmas or not.
Most importanly the game aginst D***y on 2nd November, I've been waiting a long time for this game and the nerves truly are jangling now with just over a week to go.
Dont' bottle it lads.
Pull on that shirt.
Look at that badge.
Hear the roar of the fans as you step out onto the pitch.
Take a long hard glance at the Reds fans, imploring you to shed blood for the team on this day.
THIS is the one that matters, beat D***y and you will be heroes!
Lose without giving it everything you've got and there will be no hiding place.

Defeat is not an option!

Come On YOU REDSSSSS!!!!

Its been a Long Time!!!

Well I haven't posted anythign here since before the trip to Bradford at the end of last season and so much has happened since then.
We had a great day out in Bradford but unfortunately it just wasn't to be and our season ended there, but still was good to say so many trickies taking over the city for the day.
Then came the World Cup, which promised so much for a (supposedly) great England side, unfortunately we managed to perform to our usual standard, get sent home in the quarters on penalties and I was left sat there wondering why we failed to turn up for any of our games. To be honest wasn't a great world cup, but I'm glad Italy beat the French.
Colin Calderwood has become our manager and we haven't looked back, footballs still shite but we are top of the league and looking to return to the championship at last (and Leeds look like swapping places with us which gives me hours of fun at work!!)

Anyway first round of the FA cup on Saturday so I excpect by 5 o'clock we'll have been knocked out so we can concentrate on getting out of this flea pit of a league finally.

YOU REDS!!!!!

One Game Left and All To Play For

Been ages since my last post and since then so much has happened. Megson finally decided to call it a day leaving the club four points off another relegation. Ian McParland and Frank Barlow took temporary control and what a turn around they have made. With just one game left the club finds itself on the verge of the play offs. If only we'd managed to beat Bournemouth yesterday it would all be in our own hands but now we got Bradford knowing that even if we win we are still relying on other results going our way. Going to be a tense afternoon, and all I can say is thank god I've got a ticket don't think I could bear listening to the radio for this one.

The Table looks like this going into the final weekend

3 Brentford 45 20 75
4 Huddersfield 45 13 72
5 Barnsley 45 17 69
6 Swansea 45 19 68
7 Nottm Forest 45 15 68
8 Doncaster 45 2 66

If we beat Bradford and either Barnsley or Swansea fail to win, we're in the play offs but its going to be so tight.

See you all at Valley Parade.

YOU REDSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!

Forest 0-2 Barnsley

Well bang goes our 'proud' home record, and didn't we do it in style. The performance tonight form the Reds was pathetic and was more akin to their usual ineffectual away performances.
I didn't bother going to this one, mainly due to SKY bloody TV deciding Friday night football is a great idea and being unable to leave work early enough I decided battling with the traffic on the M1 on a Friday night wouldn't be much fun and I'd probably struggle to get there in time, it must be one of the first times in ages I've actually watched a home game on the TV rather than at the ground itself and it just didn't feel right. The game may have been awful but I'd still rather be there than watching it in the sanitised atmosphere of a pub. Finding the pub was the hard part, not many round here were showing the game (and who can blame them, they want to try and keep their customers in the place after all).
Strangely enough, I didn't get any abuse once people found out I was a Forest fan, they didn't even start rolling around on the floor laughing. Just looked at me with pity and gave me the 'Never mind lad it'll pick up for your lot soon!' etc. etc.

I haven't got much to say about the game itself, apart from we were completely clueless, ten minutes into the second half I turned away from the TV and concentrated on getting some serious drinking done instead to try and numb the pain, with the odd glance back at the screen to see if things had improved any, they didn't and I spent the whole of Saturday nursing one hell of a hangover.

So what's the way forward now? I really don't know. Megson is staying, of that there is no doubt. The players seem to lack the motivation or desire to do anything for the club and the fans are turning on each other. Everything at the moment points to a long, long stay in this crappy little division and to be honest we deserve to be there. everyone's looking to our forthcoming away game at Franchise FC to be the much needed away win that may get us going but at the moment I can't see it happening and as the top of the table drifts further and further away, the foot looms ever closer.

NO HOPE, NO FUTURE. Some of which involves being too busy at work but mainly because how often can I regurgitate the same stuff week after week. But hey ho my new years resolution is actually to update this damn thing on a regular basis, nah not really I don't do New Year's resolutions. Mainly because I don't like to let people down, least of all myself (but I will endavour to actually log on and spout my normal bile about the disgrace that is the current crop of useless bastards in the Garibaldi)!

Since my last post results haven't been that good, a one all draw at Bournemouth, a two nil win at Weymouth in the FA cup (when the world and his wife turned up hoping to see us humiliated), a two nil win at home to Sothend followed by another loss away from home (two one to Huddersfield). We then went to Chester in the second round of the FA cup and got humiliated three nil, an absolute disgrace for the Trickies and meant we would not be in the Third round of the cup for the first time in fifty odd years!! We followed this up with a 0ne nil win over Port Vale, a game in which we actually played quite well and deserved more than the one goal to show for our efforts, unfortunately in the next game we reverted to type drawing one one at home to Walsall, who spent the best part of an hour with only ten men yet we still didn't attacke them!! A three one loss at Scunthorpe was followed by a four nil win over Doncaster, how we won four nil I do not know, Donny were all over us but somehow we managed to destroy them! We then drew nil nil at home to Chesterfield and most recently lost three one at Colchester (after levelling the game at one all in the nintieth minute).
So new year same old shite, up until now I've been in the camp that says we should stick with Megson, there's been far too many managerial changes down at the city ground recently and we need some stability. But enough is enough, the football on diaplsy is depressing, on paper we have a team that is more than capable of runnign away with this league but we aren't and at the end of the day that has to be the managers responsibility. Enough is enough MEGSON OUT!!!!

Forest 1 Weymouth 1 FA Cup First Round

You can just sense the vultures gathering down TrentSide, I'll use Radio Fives new name for us (last season it was 'Struggling Nottingham Forest'),'Former European Champions Nottingham Forest' sink to a new low. The replay is going to be on Sky next Monday, and the only reason they've chosen this match over the others is they can sense the real possibility of a new humiliation for us and they want to be there to show it LIVE!!
I've been reading and hearing other peoples comments on this game and it's started me wondering, Have I lost the passion I used to have for the club? that can't be possible, if I had I would no longer spend 3 hours in the car on a Saturday getting to and from the match, I'd stay in, nice and warm and listen to the Premiership or whatever on the radio. But the way Alex and Mist Rollin in and 1865 (see links to right) are ranting about this result I feel that maybe I've lost the desire I used to have for the club and , like the players, just couldn't give a toss anymore.
After this game, I was hurt, angry, annoyed that the team I love could be so dispassionate and uncaring when they pull on the Garibaldi but one of my first thoughts was 'Well it's the cup, these results happen' but why do they keep on happening to us?? And why don't I give a toss anymore?
Last season I was ranting with the best of them, becoming so annoyed with the team in front of me that I resorted to doing something I've never done in my life before, booing and abusing the players wearing MY shirt. And it is my shirt, just like it is Alex's and 1865's and Mist rollin in's and 20 odd thousand other Trickies who are living through this with us. I had arguments with other fans in the stand, I literally screamed my lungs out to try and get the players to understand exactly what this club means to me, but this season nothing!
I don't know where my desire and passion have gone but if I can't find it how can I expect the players to find theirs?
People blame the manager but I think the problems at our club go deeper than that, we keep on changing managers and nothing happens. Is there anyone out there even willing to take the job on?
I've no idea what the answer is but please someone give me my passion back, I really do miss it.

Forest 1 Bradford 0

Back to winning ways again, thankfully. At least I can now walk around up here without having to put up with jibes from the Leeds and Bradford supporting lot I work with (to be honest I still get the jobes but would have been ten times as bas if we'd lost).
Not really a very exciting game to be honest, we came out played some really good football, scored in the first half and then stopped!! That was it, didn't press for a second or third to put the game out of reach, jsut sort of sat there and said 'Ok Bradford have a go and see what you can do'. Thankfully it wasn't much at all, a decent side would have got at least one goal. But hey, I shoudln't be too critical, it's 3 points and we stay in touch with those at the top. If we can put a decent run together we'll be right up among them all soon.
Was good to see Johnno get the goal, he's still not the Johnno of old but then again the Johnno of last season would have missed the chance he put away so things are looking up there. We didn't miss Hoult as Gerrard had another superb game in goal and Holt in midfield played extremely well I thought.
One thing I really didn't enjoy was being back in 'A' Block for the day, a few seasons ago this was where I used to be for every match (not cause I'm a complete moron who thinks with his fists, but because it's one of the few places in the ground with any decent atmosphere) anyway we left this area of the ground due to hassle from the idiots they employ as stewards who seem to think it's their duty to ruin every supporters enjoyment of the game. Well there has still been no improvement on their part, people are still being dragged out of the ground for the horrendous crime of standing up at a football match (this ain't the ballet you twats). In fact they even threatened to throw me out, my crime? Complaining to the dickhead in the yellow jacket that while he was stood in front of me arguing with the lads a few rows in front about standing I couldn't see bugger all through him!!
The sooner the club gets rid of these idiots the better, why does this only happen in that section of the ground, if you stand up anywhere else you hardly get any problems at all but in 'A' block the nazi's they employ immediately get agressive towards the customers, is it any wonder the customers get aggresive back?

Welcome Back Me

As the title says I'm back, after almost a month without posting. Unfortunately work commitments meant something had to give and it turned out to be this blog, but thankfully things seemed to have slackened off recently so hopefully I can get back to actually updating this thing on a more regular basis.
So whats happened since my last post, well mainly it's been going downhill really, but hey ho tis the life of a Tricky.
We went and lost 1-0 at Southend which luckily I managed to miss as I was at work at the time. We beat Hartleepool 2-0 at our place, a game we were lucky to come away with all 3 points from really. Hartleepool really were a poor team it's just at times we actually made them look ok. We then went and lost to Woking!!!! in the LDV thingy wotsit cup and topped that off by getting stuffed by the mighty Yeovil 3-0 at the weekend. No disrespect to Yeovil (by all accounts they thoroughly deserved there win and were the better and more professional team) but Forest shopudl not be getting thumped by these sides.
Tis Bradford at home this weekend a game we have to win if only to save me having the piss ripped out of me for the rest of the year at work.
Kris Commons is injured (which means our one and only creative player is injured) Hoult has been recalled by West Brom and Taylor's spat his dummy out and fell out with the fans. All in all a pretty crappy month and I can't wait for it to be over.

Red N White Army 1 Tranmere 0

Five games undefeated now, one point away from the play offs. Everything is suddenly starting to look so much better, we are by no means the finished article but the teams performance is improving and we are starting to get the results, we keep on going like this and automatic promotion is definitely a possibility. Me and Alex (Trent End Talk) disagree on this but I thought in the first half of the game we played some really good passing football. There weren't many goalscoring opportunities created and we seemed lacking in the final third(which I put down to a lack of confidence) but I thought we were passing the ball around well in midfield, which is something we've been missing for a while. Lester had a great game again, getting stuck in and causing problems for the Tranmere defence as did Perchy, for someone so small he certainly gets stuck in. Thommo looked superb coming down the left flank and combined well with Friio at times. Johnno still seems to be lacking his old pace, on a couple of occasions the Johnno of old would have raced away from his defender and slotted the ball home but he almost seemed to hesitate before committing himself giving the defence enough time to deal with the danger. I was surprised whem Lester was taken off as I thought he'd been playing well but that's why Megson's a manger and I have to watch from the stands because the substitution seemed to work, Taylor getting on the ned of a Commons cross to head the ball home. Now everyone knows I'm not a fan of Taylor and I don't think he has anything to add to the team but if he can prove me wrong then I'll be the first to hold my hands up, one goal doesn't make a striker though.
One thing me and Alex do agree on is the Boo boys, we really don't need them down at the ground. I really think some of them are only happy if they can have a moan. But with 5 games undefeated and the team climbing up the table what is there to moan about?? Do us a favour lads and piss off to Derby or Notts instead we don't need you at Forest.

Forest 1 Blackpool 1

Well this was one I had to miss so I'll leave it to the other 2 Forest Bloggers to fill you in on what went wrong over at Trent End Talk and Mist Rollin In From The Trent not the greatest of results but I suppose at least we didn't lose, so that's four games undefeated and we're still in a decent enough position to make a push for the top of the table if we have a decent run.
While I'm sending you off to other websites check out Cheer Up Alan Shearer where I have the honour of being the latest person to write for their guest column of 'Favourite player ever..' my choice is somewhat predictable but their really could have been no one else.
Tranmere to come on Saturday and hopefully 3 more points. This is a teamI particularly loathe, for no other reason than they used to be managed by John Aldridge. A man I detest, in fact I would quite happily chin him if I ever had the misfortune to be anywhere near the loathsome scouse b*****d. And the reason for these strong feelings against a man I've never even met?
Quite simple really, in the replay of the 1989 Hillsborough FA cup Semi, Brian Laws gave away a penalty, now bearing in mind this was a pretty sensitive game after so many people had lost their lives so what does John Aldridge do?? With the biggest grin on his face he ruffles Brian Laws hair, bang out of order. As Psycho said 'If he'd have done that to me I'd have chinned him there and then'.

Swansea 1 Forest 1

A belated post on Saturdays match. On the face of it a good result, going to the league leaders and getting a point is not ot be sniffed at. But we so should have won. Once again it was Jack Lester that gave us the lead and we should also have had a penalty when Commons was taken down in the area, but hey ho thats football. We were fairly comfortable until we switched from 4-4-2 to 4-5-1 and then Swansea started to take control. admittedly taking Lester off was probably the right thing to do, we've only just got him back and can ill afford to have him injured again. Also he was on a yellow card and the little Hitler in the middle would have probably sent him off for one shoelace longer than the other before much longer. I just wish Megson had stuck with the formation that was working (and has been working for the past few games) rather than reverting to his failed 4-5-1. But no worries we're moving in the right direction and we have Blackpool to come tomorrow night ( a game I'm going to have to miss due to it being the other half's birthday). I reckon we can pick up 3 points from this one and start our push towards the top of the table rather than worrying about how few teams are left below us. Like I said before The Only Way Is Up.

The Only Way Is Up, Baby!

Good win for the Trickies tonight, 3-1 over struggling Bristol City. On a night when the City Ground remembered Brian Clough this was the only possible result in order to honour the great man's memory. The Red's started poorly going down to a soft goal and all the old problems seemed to be there, an inability to string a set of passes together, players hiding and the old hoof up the field and hope. But as on Saturday, Lester once more came to our rescue slotting away a penalty to make it 1-1 followed quickly by a goal from Perchy to make it 2-1. half time came and we were looking in command, but by no means safe. The second half Forest came out much brighter, playing some decent passing football at times and showing just what they were capable of. Given confidence and the backing of the crowd this team should have nothing to worry about in this league, when they play football there are very few teams that can live with them, it just seems that the fear of a mistake is holding them back a bit. We had another wonder goal from Commons in the second half (and this time I actually think he meant it) to wrap the game up and give us all 3 points.
Things are by no means sorted and looking Rosy all of a sudden but we're certainly on the right path and if we keep playing like that we should be back in the Cahmpionship next year.
Finally Russel hoult in goal, great shot stopper but can he find a red shirt with his clearances?? Can he hell as like! Think he needs to pretend all the lads in Red are 15 year old girls then he'd have no problem (for those that don't know the bloke has a bit of a reputation for allegedly being a bit of a paedo)
good result lads, keep it up.

R.I.P. Sir Brian

Taken me a while to post this (due to various things outside of football I haven't had much chance to get near a PC). But thankfully Saturday saw us return to winning ways, seeing off Rotherham 2-0. Goals coming from a pen. by Lester and a fluke (or goal of the season however you want to see it) from Commons. This was by no means a convincing performance and at times they looked like they just weren't interested in trying to get the win but thank god it came, can it be any conicidence that this win coincided with the return of Jack Lester and the ousting of "Captain Fantastic"??? I think not!!!
More importantly, tomorrow night sees us entertain struggling Bristol City, this is definitely a winnable match at the moment, then again Forest have a habit of gifting wins to struggling sides in order to kick start their seasons. But thats not why tomorrows important. It's the first anniversary of the death of the greatest manager this country has ever seen (Sir Brian Clough of course) and hopefully the players can put in a performance that will make him look down and smile. But tomorrow isn't really about winning or losing (although 3 points would be nice), for me it will be about all those great memories Mr. Clough has left me with and the amazing things he did for both this football club and the city of Nottingham itself.
These are the things that will be running through my head as I enter the stadium and watch the match, the European cups he bought to the club, the League title, those great cup runs of the late eighties, the fans he smacked round the head (and then apologised to him and paid his fine for him), above all he's the main reason I'm Forest through and through due to the entertaining football he insisted on being played. Thank you Mr. Clough, thank you for everything.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://leedsred.blogspot.com/2005/09/rip-sir-brian.html' title='R.I.P. We are now in the relegation zone, just one point off the bottom. Seven games played, 5 defeats and 12 goals conceded. not even close to good enough, and you cannot fault the fans who chose to boo the team yesterday, they need to kow how we feel.
The next 2 games are now crucial for us in defining our season, and maybe turning this mess around. 2 Home games against Rotherham and Bristol City, both of them winnable. 6 points from these 2 games can turn our season round, get the players confidence up and the fans back on the side of the players and the manager.
And so for these 2 games I call on all Forest fans to get behind the team, sing your heart out for the club as if we were playing D***y for the league title. Scream until you can scream no more. And I don't just mean the normal singing sections of the crowd (A Block, Upper Trent and Upper Bridgford) everyone in the whole damn ground get on your feet and support the club like you never have before. If a pass goes astray or another shot goes sailing 10 yards above the cross bar, don't give up and sink into your seat. Sing louder, really let them know what it means to be a Forest fan. You may say we've done this before and it didn't work then, but is that any reason not to give it another go?
After all what have we got to lose? If it fails and the players still don't raise their game then we have lost nothing but our voices, but if it works we may just turn our season around.
Show them how much you care, show them what this club means to us all above all show them exactly who's club this is.
COME ON U REDS!!!!!

England

Oh Dear!!!!!

'We've' Lost That Loving Feeling

Given the current sad state of affairs I decided to re-read the excllent 'Forest Ever Forest' By Chris Broughton, it basically is a season by season recollection of this mans time watching the Trickies (and god did he get to see some good times). Anyway it got me to thinking about my years watching the glorious reds and my memories (good and bad) over the years. Also reminding me of why I have an irrational hatred of certain clubs and players (John Aldridge step forward I'd like to introduce you to a Mr. Brian Laws who has something he should have given you all those years ago when you patted him on the head) and other clubs I have a soft spot for.
One of these clubs would be rather surprising to most Forest fans as they aren't exactly loved around Trentside (and no I don't mean D***y, Leicester or Liverpool). I'm referring of course to Sheffield United!
Now don't get me wrong, I hate their manager Colin as much as the next man and some of their fans leave a lot to be desired (I can recall many a trip to Bramall Lane and being constantly spat on and showered with coins).
My reason for liking The Blades goes back to the 92/93 season. The season we first got relegated from the prem and God decided to call it a day and retire to his roses in Derbyshire.
Our last home game of the season was against United, a game we had to win to stand any hope of staying up. It also coincided with the week that news leaked out that Cloughie was to call it a day at the end of the season. Naturally the City Ground was packed for this one, so we could all say our farewells to a Nottingham legend, nay a Football Legend. I had a season ticket stood on the Trent End that year (it was still a terrace then) and on my walk over Trent Bridge could have sold it to countless people for a lot more than it's value such was the demand to be at the ground for this game. No way was I giving it up though, not for any money. I owed it To Mr Clough to be there to say goodbye after all he'd done for us. See that famous Green sweatshirt step out onto the hallowed turf for one last time.
The ground was heaving that day and the atmosphere was absolutely amazing. Brian Clough walking out to an amazing recption from all sides of the ground (United included). At half time the song from our European cup days ('We've got the whole world in our hands') came over the PA. To which the whole Trent End sang along with flags being waved, scarves held aloft, people climbing on top of the crush barriers to stand out from the crowd. Truly amazing scenes considering we were just about to get relegated. As it turns out we lost the game 2-0 and went down but the thing that stands out for me from that game is during the second half the United end started singing 'Cloughie for England' (and no I don't think they were taking the piss) and soon all four sides of the ground (yep even the Exec) were on their feet singing along and saluting the great man.
That is why I have a soft spot for the Blades. They didn't have to do that, that day. They could quite easily have spent the day laughing at us and enjoying our impending demise but they didn't they instead chose to honour one of the greatest managers this game has ever seen. And for that I thank them.

Forest 1 Brentford 2

Right a belated post on yesterday afternoons match, I couldn't be arsed by the time I got back from Notts so decided to resort to having a few beers instead in the fatally misguided impression that after 10 pints everything would seem ok.
As I've said before this season is already starting to take on a worrying similarity to last seasons debacle. Yet again for portions of this match we looked dominant and more than capable of tearing apart what is essentially a poor side. All we needed was to step up the pressure a bit, maybe pass the ball to feet a bit more and the goal would come, but as has happened so often we gave up after about 15 minutes and the midfield retired for the day having obviously worn themselves out.

Firstly a message to Mr Megson 5-3-2 is not the system to play at home (I'm sure it was supposed to be 3-5-2 but the 2 wing backs spent more time in defence than in the midfield) stick to 4-4-2, trust me it works.
Secondly Johnno's quite a short bloke (you may not have noticed this assuming him to be sat down every time you've talked to him) So playing the long ball to him constantly (completely bypassing our midfield) is not going to work. This was obvious after about 10 minutes yesterday as yet again Johnno was outjumped and Brentford came away with the ball, yet for some reason we continued with this tactic for the whole game, what was the bloody point??
When we did play the ball through midfield we yet again resorted to crossing the ball early rather than taking the defence on and getting round the back of them (this is also a tried and tested tactic that causes problems for defenders).
Thirdly TAYLOR IS NO FUCKING USE!!! He's employed as a striker and is obviously incapable in that role so don't stick him in our bloody defence so he can stand their and watch the opposition score, take the captaincy off him and get him making the tea instead.
Not sure about Dadi yet, he didn't impress yesterday but I'm willing to give him a chance as he has to settle in yet.

Not good enough Forest, not good enough by a long shot. So I suggest the players, the manager and the chairman all pull their fingers out and start trying to fix this mess, before the fans turn. Believe me its not far off.

JJ Off To Join Forests First Team

Transfer deadline day today and JJ is one of the first big moves moving from Newcastle to Spurs for £8m to join up with fellow ex Trickies Dawson and Reidy, oh if only they still played in the Garibaldi. Rumours are that we get a percentage of the fee, what that is varies wildly depending on where you read it, some say 5% others upto 25% (most unlikely). I've been wondering is this a percentage of the whole fee or just a percentage on the profit Newcastle make on Jenas? Which given that we sold the lad for £5M won't be much but hey ho every little helps at the moment, lets hope the money is reinvested in the team.

Some excellent news today, seems that Stokes manger has been on the beer recently and decided in a drunken moment that fat, lazy, moneygrabbing, couldn't give a toss, useless Scouse Bastard Rogers would be a good addition to the team (I don't like him if you haven't already guessed)!!! Unfortunately it's only a trial with a permanent move possible if he impresses, with the Stoke boss saying
"Alan has come and we are going to have a good look at him. He has good experience and John Rudge can only say good things about him. But, he's got to be better than what we already have. I have a responsibility to the young players at the club to make sure they get a chance as well and we have to consider them as well."

Unfortunately the chances of Rogers being better than the club rat at Stoke are very slim so expect to see the useless twat frequenting the pie shops of Nottingham again very soon.

Thats More Like It

At last we've found out how to score again. Great result winning 3-1 away at Gillingham today will all 3 of our strikers scoring, first Johnno then Dopey and finally Spence getting in on the act after coming on as sub for Johnno. The new lad didn't even make it on the bench for some reason, apparently he was back in
Nottingham doing some extra training.
I wasn't there today but I was in Nottingham visiting my parents so at least I got to listen to the game on the radio and it sounded like a much better performance by the Reds. Let's hope we can build on this now with a win at home to top of the table Brentford on Saturday. It's a shame our match against Bristol City, which was supposed to be this coming Tuesday, has been cancelled. They seem to be struggling at the moment (they could only draw 2-2 at home to Franchise today) and now would be a good time to play them I reckon.
Today's result puts us in 15th position only 4 points off the top, let's just hope we can build on this win and start heading towards the right end of the table.
Finally congratulations to Notts County who's 2-0 win over Bristol Rovers today put them top of the League 2 table.

A Striker at Last

Finally we've signed a striker, something we've desperately needed for a long, long time. Gary has responded to this by posting his own comments on the official website, refuting the claims that he had a go at the fans. I say fair play to him. The man has gone up in my estimation after these comments and I only hope that he can be the one to turn our bunch of overpaid layabouts into something resembling a football team. Furthermore shame on the Evening Post, a paper that is for the people of Nottingham should not need to resort to such tactics in order to make more money at the news stand. To be fair to the Post it's not just them that seem to go in for this lazy journalism, where inventing stories is much more preferable to actually going out doing what journalists are supposed to do, the amount of times I've read one of the big national papers to find a story about Forest which is so blatantly full of lies and obviously written from some pub in London is untrue. Hey ho who needs to get out to investigate a story when you've got the internet to do it for you. Right I'll stop ranting now!
Megsons comments follow:

"After reading today's Evening Post Opinion article, I would like to take this opportunity to qualify one or two things

"I would never have a go at the Club's supporters who, I agree, are long suffering and incredibly loyal.

"Their support is highly regarded by everybody at Nottingham Forest but most of all by myself as I've said repeatedly since I took the job in January.

"The comments that I made last night are from my own hurt, anger and frustration at losing games and being in this predicament.

"I didn't think the crowd's reaction was "over the top" and what's more I certainly didn't say that. It was fully expected and my reaction at half-time and afterwards was every bit as angry and despairing as the supporters.

"My anger is that if a team can play with the work-rate, effort and enthusiasm that it did in the second half, it should be doing that all the time.

"I take full responsibility for everything that goes on at Nottingham Forest. I do accept criticism and at the moment expect criticism.

"What I don't expect is our local newspaper trying to drive a wedge between us - myself and my players - and the most important people at the football club, our supporters.

"For the paper to try and curry favour to sell a few more copies is pathetic but not at all unexpected."

We're Low Now But God There's Still A Long Way To Fall

How the hell has it come to this?? We're dominating teams but we seem incapable of finishing them off (this is how last season started, we played Ipswich off the park then but couldn't score against them and slowly things started going down hill).
All I can say is we need a striker quickly, someone to pay alongside Johnno and hopefully get him back to the form he's capable of.
Sort it now Meggos before it's too late.

Return of Brian Laws

Scunthorpe are in town tomorrow. For the first time ever in the league we are actually playing Scunthorpe United, hard to believe really. At least we get to welcome Brian Laws back to the City Ground, maybe he could put some shelves up for us while he's here! It sounds like they're going to be bringing a decent sized following with them as well. This is what is going to make this league so difficult for us this season, most clubs we're playing will see this game as they're cup final,a chance to put one over on the once great Nottingham Forest and in front of a huge crowd as well. If I'm coming across arrogant its not meant like that but the facts are that clubs in this league want to beat us, their fans want the opportunity to rub our noses in it and although it may not mean much now they can say they beat the team that was once champions of Europe.
We really need this win tomorrow, although its not desparate yet some fans are already talking about calling for the managers head if we don't win!!! how insane would that be?? The reason we're in this mess is because there has been no stability at the club for god knows how long, so no matter what happens we have to give Megson time to turn this mess around. It may not happen this season but changing managers once again will not solve the problem it will only make things worse.

SIr Brian

Not much to report on from the Reds today so I thought I'd mention this, something which is long overdue. Apparently we're now a step closer to having part of the A52 (road that runs between D***y and Nottingham) renamed Brian Clough Way. About bloody time too, this man did wonders for both cities and I think it's the least the respective councils can do to honour the great man. I'm just hoping they get round to it sometime before the 10th Anniversary of his death! We put out quite a strong team, which wouldn't have looked out of place in the first team. Full line up as follows
1 Gerrard
2 Perchy
3 Gippo (Padula)
4 Beaumont
5 Fernandez
6 Roberts
7 Friio
8 Boppy
9 Johnno
10 One Decent
11 Evo

We started out pretty poorly allowing Bradford to take control of the game. The team seemed unwilling to try and play football resorting to hoofing it up the field or crossing it from way out rather than trying to get behind the defence. One thing I did notice with it being a reserve match is how loud Gerrard shouts, he was constantly screaming at the players telling them where to go. Was great to see Lester back and he had a decent enough game but he doesn't quite look fully fit yet, needs to have a few more games under his belt yet and maybe a place on the subs bench in the next week or so, saying that though he was linking up well with Johnno on a few occasions the final ball just wasn't quite right though.
Today was the first time I'd seen Gino play also and he certainly put in a few crunching tackles, at times he just seemed reluctant to get too far forward and take on the full back, when he did get in the Bradford half he'd cross the ball way too early (a common failing at Forest). He also seems to have a knack of getting caught out of position, playing in the centre and allowing the Bradford right winger way too much space to run at us. Evans had a decent enough game putting in some hard tackles (some of them made me wince when I heard the noise he made as he connected with the player)he also scored 2 decent goals, both from free kicks.
We were soon 1-0 down to Bradford and not looking like scoring, in fact Bradford were all over us and I couldn't see how we could break them down. They took their goal well, Gerrard was off his line and the Bradford player lobbed him from about halfway inside the Forest half, was a really well taken goal. Then near the end of the first half we got a fortunate free kick just outside the box. Up popped Evo to curl it into the bottom right hand corner just a few minutes later Bopp made it 2-1 (unfortunately I didn't see this as I was cheering Daley as he warmed up, it was also the only thing Bopp did all game I can't even recall seeing him involved at all before or after the goal).
Second half and a much improved Forest performance, we were totally in control and had 2 more goals another Evo free kick and a well taken header from Friio (although I thought the Bradford defence was pretty weak defending it)
Daley played out on the wing for most of the second half, only moving up front when Johnno went off and I must say the lad looks class, quick and got some great touches on the ball. Given time this lad will definitely be a star at Forest. I'd also like to say well done to Perchy who had a very good game, he must be back in Meggo's pans shortly (also the way he was bossing Daley about, telling him where to go really impressed me).
All in all was an enjoyable night out, made a change to be able to watch a match without being too concerned about the result and just being able to concentrate on the football.

Forest Hit By Injuries

Unfortunately to add to the debacle that was Swindon, Forest have come out of the game with 2 players injured.Even more unfortunate neither of them is Gareth Taylor!!
Danny Cullip and John Curtis are both receiving treatment for injuries and could be out for a couple of weeks, not a great start then, we can do without injury problems.

Tomorrow night I've got my first 'home' game of the season. For various reasons I'm having to cut back on my away following of the Reds, one of the main ones being the complete inability of the players to match the fans commitment to the cause. My last away game was Coventry towards the end of last season. A mid week game which was make or break for Forest, over 4000 Trickies made the journey that night and the players ran out to an amazing reception, the noise coming from the away end was phenomenal considering the pathetic performances we'd seen that season. The reponse from the players? Nothing! No guts, no desire, no fight. They just rolled over and let a poor Coventry team take them apart. I walked out after 70 minutes and swore I would not waste my time or money travlling away with this team until they could show the same pride in the shirt that I and my fellow fans have.

After the Walsall game it sounded as if some of that fight and pride was returning and I woke up on Saturday wishing I was making the long trip south to watch them. Unfortunately based on what I've heard the players have reverted to type, not trying, not caring and allowing a poor side to take them to pieces with ease (for a more comprehensive report see Mist Rolling in From's site Mist Rollin in From The Trent).

I'm trying not to get too down about this, it's still too early in the season. I never expected us to come into this league and run away with it like some people suggested. However I do expect us to give it a damn good go and hopefully make teams scared to play us.
So how do we solve this problem? God knows, it's been hanging around for quite a while now and the solutions still seem the same as they did last season.
1) Get players in who actually give a damn and will show some pride in wearing the garibaldi.
2) Get in a decent 20 goal a season striker (not some clueless excuse for a footballer who we then make our captain).
3)Drop Gareth bloody Taylor.
4) Oh and maybe practice corners and free kicks in training, bit contoversial I know but may just work!!!

Return of the Prem Yawn!!

Well judging by all the hype on the radio, in the papers and on the tele the real football season starts tomorrow. The majority of us in the country that follow the other 72 league clubs obviously don't count. The boring pantomime that is the Premiership is all that matters in the football world apparently. Personally I just can't get excited about the Prem, it bores me. I'll watch the occasional game on Sky and maybe watch Match Of The day when I've got nowt else to do but there is just no excitement in there. We already know the 3 teams that will be challenging at the top for the title, and it is highly unlikely that anyone will break into their ranks to challenge, we've also got a pretty good idea who's going to figure in the relegation struggle. All the rest of them have to play for is mid table mediocrity, how demoralising must that be, going into the season knowing you have nothing to play for?

Back to Earth With A Bump

Not going to post much on the match tonight cos I've got it on me (and I didn't go so need to get all the info off mates etc). Needless to say we went to Walsall and lost 3-2, nowt new there can't remember when we last beat em. Oh and we also had our keeper sent off, this when we've just been fined for having a poor disciplinary record last season, great!! Anyway from what I've been told the Ref was decidedly dodgy and the sending off was a bit of a disgrace. Could do with going to Swindon on Saturday and getting a result now to get our confidence back, the one thing we can't afford after last season is for the lads heads to suddenly drop. First day of the season today and we started with a 2-1 win against Huddersfield. The football was by no means that entertaining but it's the result that counts and we really needed to get off to a good start in this league.
The day really was one of ups and downs, started off watching the cricket and England wickets were tumbling and you just got that feeling that yet again we were going to throw away a commanding position and lose. Someone forgot to tell Flintoff though cos he was hammering the ball all over the place, despite having an injured shoulder. At the same time Sheff. Utd. were beating Leicester 4-1 which certainly brightened my day up (hate the blue scum).
The game itself certainly wasn't the best, the football was pretty poor at times and we looked lightweight up front (nowt new there then). On the plus side our defence looked pretty solid and some good crosses were coming from the midfield, just a shame we couldn't put them away. Maybe I'm being a bit unfair, there were a lot of new players in the team and it takes a while for everyone to gel. But at the end of the day it doesn't really matter, we got the 3 points thanks to Dopey and Johnno.
Get back to the car to catch the final scores and D***y could only draw at home with Brighton, can this day get any better? You're damn right it can England decide to tear through the Aussie batsmen leaving us with only a few more wickets to get tomorrow and level the Ashes.
God I love the first day of the season, life just doesn't get any better than this.

"We're only here for a season
Here for a season
We're only here for a season"

Nearly there

At last we've fibally made it through the drab summer months and tomorrow the new season is upon us. Surprisingly given that we're going to be playing in the third division I'm actually quite excited and really looking forward to my trip down tomorrow. In order to build myself up even more, I went back to look at one of my favourite sites from last season

The Real Nottingham Forest Supporter

It basically did a rather humorous review of each match as the season went on. And the one that sent a tingle down my spine at the time and still does today is the one for the Burnley match. We'd just won 1-0 and had to go to QPR the week after and win to stand any chance of staying up. I'll reproduce the review here just in case it's disappeared by the time anyone gets to read this.
And this is why I love this club so much.
COME ON U REDDDDDDS!!!!!!!!

APRIL 26th 2005 - NUMBER 32 - FOREST FANS 1 BURNLEY 0

Don't cry, don't sigh, don't whine or whinge, don't listen to the faded dreams of the old nor the ignorant fury of the young, feel no shame, no sorrow, no regrets, no envy, ignore the patronising sentimentality of strangers, ignore the cynical rants of cowards and conspirators,
don't bend, don't break, don't stumble now the road is hard, don't turn away...

No words. No tears. No surrender.

QPR v NOTTINGHAM FOREST
Saturday 30th April

Show them whose club it is.

England in Control

Amazingly at the end of the second day of an ashes test England haven't yet shot themselves in the foot. They've ended the day on 25-1 giving them a lead of 124. Now I don't want to get too carried away here because you just know something will go wrong over the next few days that prevents them from winning it but they've got themselves in a great position to actually level the series and give the convicts something to think about. Hopefully they can keep it up and couple this with 3 points for the mighty Reds tomorrow and it will have been a great weekend.

2 'New' Signings

Well we've signed 2 players this week (well one of them is just siging a new contract). Danny Cullip has signed from Sheffield United, the lads a Central Defender and I reckon could be a decent signing, Warnocks players tend to have a bit of fight about them.Whether he'll be ready for Saturday is another matter, I think the best he can hope for is a place on the bench at first while he gets settled in.

The other one is John Curtis and the less said about him the better, personally I'd rather have seen the club show him the door. The offer of a new contract has been there since May and Curtis has sat there waiting to see if anyone else was interested in signing him, unfortunately no one was so he had no choice but to come and play for us. I think Megson should have given him till mid June to make up his mind, if he's not committed to playing for us then he shouldn't be in the team we had too many players last season who were just going through the motions and picking up their pay checks and look where that got us.

On a positive note looks like there's going to be a good crowd for Saturday. Huddersfield have sold their allocation of 2,500 with the possibilty of more being made available to them. Forest have sold about 17,000 and with people who turn up on the day and buy a ticket we're looking at a crowd of over 20,000. Pretty damn good for a third division side, maybe the board will realise one day what great fans we really are.

One Week to go

Finally we're nearly there, just a week left until the new season kicks off and we can get back to football. Summers all well and good but the lack of football to watch sure seems to make the months drag.
Our pre season hasn't been anything to get excited about. We finally got a win last week against Exeter (2-1) and yesterday threw away a 2 goal lead to draw 2-2 with Torquay, these are teams we really should be hammering. Still no sign of a striker to come in and get us 20 odd goals a season and unfortunately Taylor hasn't received a career threatening injury yet, so I guess we'll be stuck with him for the next 9 months!
Anyway looking forward to my trip down the motorway next Saturday to watch us kick off our season at home to Huddersfield, hopefully I won't be staring at the ground and shaking my head after 10 minutes like I seemed to spend most of last season doing.
Come On U REDS!!!!!

No Goals, No win but Life Just Got Better

Well the game against the mighty Boston United finished goalless, so yet again we fail to get a victory and we're still struggling to score. Johnno played for nearly 70 minutes and apparently looked quite sharp (please, please let him get his form back) he was then replaced by 'Arfur' Daley who was causing some bother and had some chances but as has been the case for way too long we just couldn't finish, so still some more work needed I reckon Mr. Megson. Good news is that Gerrard is back in goal, we're gonna need him next season. He's way too good for this league and could do well in the Prem I reckon but if he wants to stay then I reckon we should cling onto him he could earn us quite a few points in the years to come.
More bad news today in that England lost the first Ashes test, not too surprising really as we haven't won at the Oval for about 5,000 years. On the plus side we did manage to bowl Australia out twice (which makes a change) and Pietersen looks like he has the makings of a top class cricketer, the series ain't over yet Aussies!!!
Fianlly today some great news which has really put the spring back in my step, Ipswich Town are rumoured to be after Alan Rogers (our inept Left Back)after rolling about on the floor laughing for about 20 minutes I did a check to make sure that I wasn't being wound up (most people know how much i despise this useless waste of space) and there it was on Rivals.net. Now I know this isn't the BBC and I shouldn't get too carried away but hopefully, hopefully there's some truth in the rumour. This man is one of the major causes of our demise last season, he's lazy, fat and got an overinflated opinion of himself, can't tackle, can't cross in fact I don't know what he can do that merits his place in the squad. the sooner he's gone the better for the whole club.

Pre Season Tour Moves Back to England

Well Forest have got a game today away to the mighty Boston United, surely this will be the game where we finally get a win and a few goals to boost the confidence of the players? No discredit to Boston but we should not be struggling against this side. Today we've had a man shot dead on a train by plain clothes police (rumours are that he was one of the unsuccessful bombers from yesterday and was being trailed by the police). I can't believe he was crazy enough to show his face again so soon, surely he didn't think he could get away with it? Absolute madness! Australia had already lost 4 wickets and things were looking good, by mid afternoon the convicts were all out for 190, so all that was needed was for England to go out bat for the rest of the day and hopefully not lose any wickets, while notching up some runs and over the course of the second day set up a really big lead.
Unfortunately Glenn McGrath had other ideas and just carved through the England batting order taking 5 wickets for 21 runs, absolutely amazing figures. By the end of the day England were 92-7, which is a good recovery considering the position they were in earlier, now what we've got to do is hopefully overtake the Aussie's score or at least not end up too far behind and give it a go in the second innings. It's certainly set things up for an interesting first test that's for sure, may the series continue in this vein.

You Tell Em Meggo

Our Manager Megson has launched a scathing attack on the useless individuals that have the privilege of wearing the glorious Garibaldi, and good on him. Unfortunately reading these words it sounds all too familiar to me, this was exactly what they were like last season. Play ok for a bit then just sort of give up and not give a damn about it. They need to realise we can't have a team that plays with that attitude otherwise it will be another relegation battle on the cards and that is just unthinkable, if they thought the fans turned on them last season, that is nothing compared to the reaction they'll get if we find ourselves struggling in this mediocre league. Slagelse 2V1 Nottingham Forest

Well at least we scored which is a definite bonus but we lost yet again, i've never even heard of the team we lost to either which doesn't bode well. On the upside the Danish season is about to kick off so their players are going to be that much fitter and better prepared than ours as we don't kick off till August 6th. Frankly I'm still a little worried about the state of our team we haven't really progressed that much in the close season, yeah we've bought in some new players and we're trying to get rid of the carthorses from last season (who is going to buy any of them in all honesty?). But I Still think we're short of a natural goalscorer (Gareth Taylor is definitely not one of those.
Maybe the answer lies in our reserves, they played Ilkeston Town the other night and beat them 7-2 4 goals coming from a young lad yet to make his first team debut by the name of Daley. I say give the lad a go and see what he can do, he surely can't be any worse than some of the muppets we play up front and he may even spring a surprise or two.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://leedsred.blogspot.com/2005/07/result-slagelse-2v1-nottingham-forest.html' title='Result. But unfortunately the pre season has continued where last season left off.
We've had 2 matches so far on our tour of Denamrk and won neither of them, failing to score in both!!!! One was a 0-0 draw and last nights was a 1-0 loss. What amazes me is that we continue to play Gareth bloody Taylor I dunno what the manager see's in him but he must like him cos he's even our Captain for some bizarre reason. The man has no footballing ability whatsoever, he can't head a ball, can't control a ball (both pretty much basic skills which are needed for a front man) and whenever he tries to chest a ball he seems to insist on trying to use his hands "It's called FOOTBALL for a reason you halfwit!!!!!" Anyway it is only pre season and hopefully things will pick up as they start to reach match fitness but things certainly haven't started very well. All it does is keep the cycle of violence going endlessly round and round.

Muslim fears of revenge attacks grow

Police raid bookshop

G8 Farce

What a ridiculous mess, we'll offer you money and help sort out the terrible situation you're in (part of which is our fault anyway) but only if you do as we say, THAT'S WHY AFRICA IS SO SCREWED UP IN THE FIRST PLACE YOU MORONS!!!!!

G8 debt deal under threat at IMF

Let me Introduce Myself

Evening people, thanks for popping by. Allow me to introduce myself as the title says I'm a Nottingham man exiled in God's own country, Yorkshire. Not a bad place to be by any means, in fact as the locals frequently tell you one of the most beautiful places on earth to live. The only downside is I live away from the greatest football team on earth (for the uninitiated amongst you that would be the mighty Nottingham Forest, temporarily on loan to Division 3 of the English League!!!!). At the moment I'm still in a quandry about whether to renew my season ticket or not.
You see I love the club and can't imagine spending a season without actually being there but I begrudge paying £450 for what is going to be third rate football (I also begrudge putting money into the club while we have a chairman who sits on his hands and watches the team slide into oblivion but that's another story). A possible solution is just to become an away fan, but that's not going to be so easy in this league, a lot of the clubs have really small grounds and we have quite a huge away following so I'd probably struggle to get a ticket in our end.
At the end of the day I don't know what I'm procastinating about the choice is between spending 3 hours in a car each match day getting to and from the ground or spending my Saturday's going shopping or visiting Garden Centres! No contest really so I realy should get off my arse and go and buy my ticket.
Come on U reds!!!!
